Lee County Board of Commissioners Signal Commitment to Preserving Farms

The Lee County Board of Commissioners made a landmark investment in the future of agriculture and working lands across the county at their March 3rd, 2025 meeting, voting to adopt a new conservation easement policy establishing an “Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Fund” as well as updating the county’s existing “Farmland Preservation Ordinance.”

Dedicated to preserving and protecting the farmhouse and surrounding farmland that has been in their family for more than a century, this powerful trio worked with TLC since 2022 to secure the necessary funding from state and local agencies to preserve the property for future generations.

Pints for the planet: Fullsteam lager supports TLC this Earth Month

April 12, 2024

This April, Durham’s own Fullsteam Brewery partnered with TLC to create a new Farmhouse Lager, as part of the Earth to Beer movement. This national initiative challenges brewers to craft a packaged beer that is better for the planet, and this year a portion of the proceeds from Fullsteam’s new creation will go to support TLC’s work to protect clean water, natural habitats, and support local farms in the Triangle.

TLC partners with Wake County to preserve 125 acres of farmland in Wendell

January 19, 2024

A big win for farmland happened in Wendell with a 125-acre farm, one of the last remaining large farms in the area, being permanently protected. TLC partnered with the Wake County Board of Commissioners to place the property into Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Farmland Preservation Program. This conservation easement has resulted in the single largest dedication of funds for farmland preservation in the county, state, and one of the largest in the country.
