What will your legacy be?
Whatever your stage in life, planned giving can benefit you and your loved ones while helping to protect nature for generations to come. They offer creative, flexible strategies for your estate and charitable planning. Explore your options here, or reach out to our staff —we’re happy to help every step of the way.
Also, please let us know about your planned gift so that TLC to thank and recognize you now for commitment to the future. When you include TLC in your estate plans, you become a member of the Longview Society. This special group of dedicated donors prioritizes TLC now and for the future.
Ways to Give
Wills or Trusts
Designate a particular asset or a percentage of your estate to TLC by including a bequest provision in your will or revocable trust. You can do this while creating your will or trust, or you can amend an existing one with a simple document. TLC can be either a primary or a contingent beneficiary.
Retirement Plans
You can name TLC as a full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified plans. By doing so, you can remove the asset from your estate and save your beneficiaries from paying income taxes on the balance of your retirement account. Your beneficiaries can be changed at any time.
Insurance Policies
You can designate TLC as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or an contingent beneficiary either for the total value of the policy or partial interest.
Conservation Burial
Make the ultimate gift to nature with a green burial—a low-impact alternative that honors and restores the earth. TLC partners with Bluestem Conservation Cemetery, the Piedmont’s first conservation burial ground. This beautiful 90-acre site in Cedar Grove is protected by a conservation easement held by Eno River Association and TLC.

About the Longview Society
The Longview Society’s name honors the home and spirit of George and Julia Brumley, whose deep love for conservation has shaped much of what TLC is today. The Brumley family home, which was adjacent to what is now TLC’s Brumley Preserve was called “Longview,” maybe for the beautiful views of the land, or maybe because they hoped it would be a place where generations of their family would find comfort.
Like so many conservation-minded people, the Brumleys exemplified the long view. When a large-scale development threatened the landscape, they quietly and persistently acquired the land—parcel by parcel—preserving it for future generations. Their legacy lives on through the Brumley Nature Preserve.
The Longview Society is a tribute to their vision and a community of other generous supporters, like Hildegarde Ryals, William Burlingame, the daughters of Bailey and Sarah Williamson and many others who believed in the power of forward-thinking stewardship.
As a member of the Longview Society, you will be recognized in publications, invited to special events and walks plus have an opportunity to share with others what inspired your gift for future generations.
