Meet Triangle Land Conservancy’s Newest Nature Preserve

Triangle Land Conservancy will host Wild Ideas for Walnut Hill on November 14, 2017 at Market Hall in downtown Raleigh starting at 5:30pm. Community members are invited to learn about TLC’s forthcoming preserve, the Sarah and Bailey Williamson Preserve at Walnut Hill while enjoying free local food and beer. Triangle Land Conservancy’s Wild Ideas series provides a unique venue for experts and the community to share their innovative ideas to improve lives through conservation by safeguarding clean water, protecting wildlife habitat, supporting local farms and food, and connecting people to nature. This gathering will offer attendees a chance to meet the preserve at Walnut Hill, a 405-acre property owned by Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) that embodies all 4 of these community benefits and will become their next public nature preserve. The land is host to several unique ecosystems, over 100 acres of working farmland, 250 years of local agrarian history, and will connect to some of the most significant greenway systems in the Triangle and state.
At Wild Ideas for Walnut Hill, attendees will have a chance to voice their thoughts on how this property can serve the needs of the community and make the Triangle a more vibrant place to live, work, and play. The featured speakers for Wild Ideas for Walnut Hill are Dale Threatt-Taylor (Director, Wake Soil and Water Conservation District), Pat McCullers (Member of Good Hope Baptist Church and resident of Shotwell Community), Nicole Accordino (Program Director, Transplanting Traditions Community Farm), Erin White (Community Food Lab), and Teacher Jeff Deal and students (Knightdale High School of Collaborative Design). The emcee for the event is Sandy Sweitzer (Executive Director, TLC).
After the presentations, there will be an expo that features partners and organizations representing successful models with features that could be replicable at Walnut Hill including existing farm and education organizations.
Guests are invited to contribute at Conversation Stations set up around the room with moderators guiding audience members through an interactive exchange of ideas. Attendees can share their views and input on the concepts presented, vote on their favorite ideas, and ask questions of those involved. Topics that will be covered include recreational trails, agricultural history, local food access, and education
