National Estate Planning Awareness Week with TLC
October has arrived, bringing colorful leaves that drift gently to the ground: a perfect reminder to reflect on the legacy we hope to leave behind. It’s a time to care for both our loved ones and the land we cherish.
We’re committed to protecting the land in the Triangle for generations to come. Recently, we celebrated an exciting achievement: 69 acres of the Little River Ecosystem in Johnston County are now permanently protected.
This special property, bordered by one of the county’s most pristine and wild rivers, will remain a sanctuary for wildlife, clean water, and the people who cherish it. But our work doesn’t stop here; you can help continue this legacy by including TLC in your estate plans and ensuring that the land you love remains protected.
How to Get Started with Estate Planning
Estate planning isn’t just about legal documents—it’s about preserving your values and your legacy. Here are some steps to consider:
- Gather key documents and identify your assets.
- Explore options beyond a will—consider trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives.
- Reviewing insurance coverage to protect your loved ones
- Revisit your plan regularly as life circumstances change.
- Review estate tax laws and long-term care options.
- Check and update beneficiaries on accounts and retirement plans.
Through our partnership with FreeWill, it’s easier than ever to start or update your estate plan—and make a lasting impact on the environment and community you value.
Ways to Give
You can make a lasting difference through:
- Retirement plans (401(k), IRA)
- Life insurance policies
- Bequests in your will
- Donor-advised funds, and more
