TLC's Brumley and Williamson Nature Preserves are wonderful places to visit, and unique to our other public preserves, they each offer multi-use trails. This means that in addition to hiking and walking, visitors can also mountain bike on designated trails. These trails provide spaces to relax and connect with nature; however, it is important to keep in mind some policies meant to protect these beautiful spaces.
Here are a few reminders:
- When the gates are closed, the trails are closed. By staying off the trails during this time, TLC can open access to the public much sooner. Closing the trails before or after a major weather event helps prevent erosion, and TLC staff and volunteers will have less repairs to complete if the trails are left alone. When preserve trails are significantly damaged, often we must close the trails to allow for speedy and safe repair. Your help in respecting trail closures prevents further damage to the trails we love! To see if the trails are closed, check the TLC website to see the trail status for Brumley South and Williamson.
- At Williamson, the Bootlegger's Loop Trail does remain open during trail closures - however, please respect that it is hiking only.
- Brumley's North section is hiking only, and remains open when the Brumley South trails are closed.
If you're interested in helping maintain the trails, TLC hosts periodic trail workdays at both Brumley and Williamson preserves. Additionally, consider becoming a member of Triangle Offroad Cyclists (TORC) - TORC hosts further trail workdays to improve mountain bike trail conditions at both preserves.
