Brumley Forest Nature Preserve, part of the Falls Lake watershed

With half of April to go, Triangle Land Conservancy has raised over $14,000 toward their $25,000 goal with 88 gifts. If TLC raises all of the money, a long-time supporter will provide a $25,000 match to the funds. “We have great momentum toward reaching our goal as we are over halfway toward $25,000 in just 13 days,” says Christine Wilson, TLC’s Director of Development. That money is needed to do the last few things to open Orange County’s Brumley Forest Nature Preserve in November. TLC’s Associate Manager of Stewardship, Matt Rutledge, says Brumley is a unique place not only because of its great location but because of its unique habitats like wetlands, beaver ponds with big snapping turtles, old farmland with pine and sweetgum trees and really nice oak-hickory areas. “It’s easy to get to and you can see a lot of different stuff,” he said. Your help can ensure this special place is protected and available to the public! TLC has set up four great ways for people to help meet this challenge:

Make a straight-up tax deductible donation to Triangle Land Conservancy online or by phone or mail.
Attend the Tap Takeover event April 22nd during which 15% of sales will be donated to TLC (more below)
Shop at Zola Craft Gallery on 9th street April 16th-22nd for local crafts and gifts and 10% of your purchase will be donated to TLC.
2 for 1 kale purchased from Relay Foods!
Try the Triangle’s new, online, healthy grocery store, Relay Foods, which will be donating 20% of all orders placed either with a special TLC code (“SUPPORTTLC”) or link relayfoods.com/supporttlc) during April.

Relay seems to have gathered some interest from this partnership. Their Local Market Manager, Laura Miller, says that TLC folks throughout the Triangle have been checking out the site, and that their website traffic for the month has gone up.

Zola Gallery a fine craft and gift store that specializes in handcrafted and local art. Gallery owner and long time TLC supporter, Sidney Cruze says “We’re glad to help TLC in its efforts to protect clean water, local farms and food, and the area’s natural beauty, which is inspiration for so many of our artists.” There are several fun events coming up in April. On Earth Day itself (April 22):

TLC and EarthShare NC will have a breakfast featuring speakers, conservation updates and members of the conservation community complete with delicious local food at 214 Martin Street in Raleigh. (Tickets must be purchased.)
The Tap Takeover, 5:30-7:30 pm at Bottle 501 in Durham, will be a great chance to mingle with other conservation folks while sampling multiple kinds of delicious Appalachian Mountain Brewing beer! (Free but must register online.)
Lastly, TLC will partner with REI for a special Full Moon Hike at Horton Grove Nature Preserve. Cost is $20 for REI members and $30 for non-members. Only five slots left! (Register online.)

Another part of this month is TLC’s two ticket giveaways for new members! (Requires a $30 donation or more.)
