Deer Browse Prevention | Forest Restoration Methods NC

TLC is working to restore several old agricultural fields on the Brumley property. The fields that lie within the Clean Water Management Trust Fund easement areas (within 300 feet of all streams) are being reforested to reduce nutrient runoff from these fields. TLC is working to eliminate invasive species in the fields and has planted a mix of native hardwoods and shortleaf pine. The final step is protecting the planted trees from deer browse by caging them. While this method may not be feasible for larger planted areas or other landowners, TLC’s loyal volunteers and the small size of the restoration project allows TLC to cage individual trees, which has nearly a 100% success rate in stopping deer browse.
