Come explore the cosmos with us at TLC’s Three Bears Private Preserve in Creedmoor!

Come explore the cosmos with us at Triangle Land Conservancy’s Three Bears Private Preserve in Creedmoor! Travel on a hike through the solar system to get to our stargazing site. When you are done dodging asteroids and learning about the planets, take a pit stop at each of our activity tables. During the activities you will explore the wonders of our solar system, learn star stories, and uncover how astronomy inspires and benefits everyone, every day! When dark begins to fall, we will play some nighttime games and end with an opportunity to look through real telescopes provided by the Raleigh Astronomy Club! We are excited to have Travelin’ Tom’s join us to provide warm beverages for purchase.

This is a free event, but pre-registration is required. Accessible indoor toilets will be available onsite, and the event will take place along gravel paths and a large grassy field. This is a completely outdoor event, and we suggest you bring chairs and blankets, extra layers to keep warm, and a few snacks and a water bottle. Come join us for our First Saturday birding hike at our Brumley North Nature Preserve!

Did you know that Brumley North is the #2 Hotspot for birding in the state? Our Brumley Birding hike will be led by co-members of both TLC and the New Hope Bird Alliance. We will meander on an easy 1.5 mile hike over about 2 hours with many stops along the way. Please wear good walking shoes and layers, bring a water bottle, and binoculars if you have them. We suggest that you leave your furry friends at home for this hike as they may scare away wildlife viewing opportunities. This is a free event, but preregistration is required.

Bluestem Partner Walk @ Bluestem Conservation Cemetery
Apr 5 @ 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Come join us for an exploration of Bluestem, a  non-profit 87 acre nature preserve including a conservation cemetery!

TLC and Eno River Association are Bluestem’s conservation partners helping to protect it with an upcoming conservation easement. As a nature preserve, Bluestem is restoring 30 acres of former farm fields into prairie grasslands. It is open to all, with a growing trail network built by volunteers.

Bluestem is also a conservation cemetery with 50 acres set aside for natural burial. “Natural burial at Bluestem is simple, natural and personal. It occurs without embalming, without metal or steel caskets, and without concrete vaults.”

We will break into two groups for the hike: a conservation/nature walk and a walk for those interested in Bluestem‘s green burial practice as well as its nature preserve role. The trails are flat, though some may be muddy after a rain. Kids are welcome and while Bluestem does love dogs, this is an event only for their owners. This is a free event, but preregistration is required.

Spring Wildflower Hike @ Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve
Apr 12 @ 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Join TLC for a beautiful Saturday morning hike through Spring wildflowers!

This will be a moderate 1.5 mile hike exploring the trail system at Swift Creek Bluffs. The timing should be right to see a plethora of Trout Lilies and other spring ephemerals, such as Blood Root and Spring Beauties. Due to the size of the parking lot, we will keep the hiking group very small, and ask that you register by vehicle rather than individual. So bonus points if you can carpool with a friend! This is a free event, but preregistration is required.

Friday Under the Stars @ Three Bears (Private Preserve)
May 2 @ 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Come join us for our astronomical series: Friday Under the Stars!

Raleigh Astronomy Club will be hosting a monthly night sky viewing session at one of our private sites that will only be open for this event. The old site for Three Bears Acres will be the perfect location for star viewing fun so bring a blanket or chair and we will see you there!

Because this is a private preserve, we ask that you leave furry friends at home. We suggest that you bring a picnic blanket or chair to stargaze in, a red flashlight, warm layers, and snacks and a water bottle. Please remember to pack anything that you bring in, back out with you and we can’t wait to see you amongst the stars! This is a free event, but preregistration is required. Make sure to save your spot below!

Rain Date Plan if Needed: We have set the following Saturday as the rain date to ensure that we will have the best viewing chances possible. If any changes are made to the dates, we will contact everyone by email by lunchtime on Friday using the 24 hour cloud cover predictions to make the best call that we can.
