Laura grew up in Mexico and, despite living in a city of 25 million people, she developed a passion for plants and being outdoors early on, especially in tropical rainforests. After getting an undergraduate degree in Biology at the National University of Mexico (UNAM), she went on to grad school in New Zealand and Australia, earning her Master’s in Conservation Biology at Victoria University of Wellington, and a Ph.D. in Ecology at the University of New South Wales.
She has worked in applied conservation on the ground, as a researcher, or as a project manager since 2010, but also fondly remembers being a jungle guide in Costa Rica, and a gardener in New York City’s Central Park. She is currently getting to know the forests, farms, and fields of the Triangle, and loves all the amazing local plants.
