Come join TLC for one of our amazing First Saturday Hikes!

This social hike will be a great way to get outside and get moving at the beginning of your month! We hope that you will be able to join us to meet some new friends and learn a thing or two along the way as well. We will meet at the main entrance of Johnston Mill Nature Preserve, which can be tight on busy mornings, so we suggest carpooling if you can.

This is a free event, but preregistration is required. Make sure to save your spot below! If the registration list is full, you can add your name to our waitlist here.

Current Mask Policy: TLC seeks to build a supportive, mask-friendly environment in all collaborations with staff and the public. Please wear a mask if you are not vaccinated, or if that makes you feel most comfortable. We will have masks available if you would like to wear one during an event. We also encourage those eligible to be vaccinated to get their Covid-19 vaccine and booster shot. If you are experiencing any Covid-related symptoms, please stay home and attend a program another day. Our top priority is to create a safe environment for our community. White Pines Morning Hike @ White Pines Nature Preserve
Mar 1 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Come join us for an early Spring, morning hike at our White Pines Nature Preserve!

Register Now

On this moderate, 3.5 mile hike lead by our trail guide, Pam, you will see five varieties of pine trees. This preserve contains species not typically found in the North Carolina Piedmont, but still remain here from the last ice age due to the rivers surrounding the area creating a microclimate. You can also keep an eye out for white-tailed deer, beavers, gray foxes, and muskrats.

The pace of this hike will be just under 1.5 mph. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a full water bottle! This is a free event, but preregistration is required.

If the event is full, please fill out the form at this link to be added to the waitlist.

Spring Wildflower Hike @ Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve
Mar 14 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Join TLC for a beautiful Tuesday morning hike through early Spring wildflowers!

This will be a moderate 1.5 mile hike exploring the trail system at Swift Creek Bluffs. The timing should be right to see a plethora of Trout Lilies and other spring ephemerals, such as Blood Root and Spring Beauties. Due to the size of the parking lot, we will keep the hiking group very small, and ask that you register by vehicle rather than individual. So bonus points if you can carpool with a friend! This is a free event, but preregistration is required.
