Here at TLC, we strive to find new ways to inspire nature explorations throughout the Triangle. To this end and to incorporate a little friendly competition, we are officially launching our TLC Hiking Challenge, five hikes in each of our five nature preserves!
Do you have questions? Great! Check out our quick hiking challenge Q&A.
What is a hiking challenge?
A hiking challenge is a series of pre-designated walks that members must complete before successfully finishing the challenge. The hikes are between one and three and a half miles, and can be pretty easily completed by hikers of all skill levels.
Two other land trusts in North Carolina also have challenges open to their members. The Carolina Mountain Conservancy has an eight hike challenge, while the Land Trust for Central North Carolina has both a hiking and a paddling challenge (Maybe one day, we will get together and create a grander “North Carolina hiking challenge”!).
What are the rules?
1. You must be a TLC member to participate in the Challenge and receive Challenge incentives. It’s the easiest way for us to keep track of our hikers and keep you up to date on prizes and winners.
2. Before beginning, please read the rules and hiking challenge safety guidelines.
3. There is no time limit to complete this challenge. Hikes may be completed alone or in a group.
4. Hikes must be logged on the TLC Challenge website.
5. Hikes must have occurred on or after March 3, 2015.
What do I win?
Upon completion of all five hikes, the participant will receive a one-of-a-kind patch from TLC, and be entered to win drawings for other prizes.
Can kids and families participate?
Yes! The TLC Hiking Challenge is for people of all ages. We encourage you to complete the hikes with family or friends. Just remember that each person participating in the Challenge should register him or herself on our website and log their hikes. Parents may register and complete the hike log for their children.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Dogs are allowed on all of TLC’s public nature preserves. We ask that while visiting TLC’s public preserves your dog remain on leash and that you clean up after them.
