Laura Stroud joined TLC in July of 2015 as the Conservation and Stewardship Associate. Originally from Jacksonville, NC, Laura earned her Bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She first came to TLC in the summer of 2011 as a Stewardship Intern, working to map and remove invasive species at Irvin Farm Nature Preserve. She then served with AmeriCorps Project Conserve at Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy in Hendersonville, NC as a Land Protection Associate.
Laura completed her Master of Community and Regional Planning at the University of Oregon in 2015. As a graduate student, she worked on planning projects for rural communities across the state, including a land use assessment for a Rails with Trails corridor, and disaster mitigation planning for coastal communities. Her primary research looked at generating business support for a water quality protection project.

TLC conserves land to safeguard clean drinking water, protect natural habitats, support local farms and food, and connect people with nature. Controlled burns are used in our efforts to restore native habitats like open fields and grasslands that have been greatly diminished in North Carolina’s Piedmont region.
