What is your role at TLC?: As the Education and Outreach Manager, I manage all of our environmental education programming. Along with other tasks, I also engage in outreach through organizing volunteer groups and projects for our 8 public preserves.
Favorite TLC Preserve: Horton Grove is my favorite preserve. Its history and ecological significance means it already is at the top of my list, but it is also the perfect size. It’s big enough to feel like you haven’t explored it all, but not so big that it feels like you’ll never be able to.
Kayla joined TLC in September 2020. She previously worked as a naturalist teacher for an outdoor school outside of Yosemite National Park in California. She grew up in Winston-Salem exploring her backyard and has always had a passion for conservation. It wasn’t until she completed an environmental education internship at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill that she knew she wanted to focus on sharing her passions with students of all ages. She majored in Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
