GIVING VOICE TO EQUITY IN THE OUTDOORS
From mountains to sea, and everything in between, there are 640 million acres of beautiful wild public lands available to us all, but not everyone enjoys these amazing resources equally. Why?
Please join us as we explore how to ensure that outdoor adventure is accessible and open to all with expert panelists discussing outdoor culture, inclusion and diversity, access, and more. On Night 1 at Great Outdoor Provision Company’s Raleigh location, our 4 panelists speak representing groups that are traditionally marginalized in their access, knowledge and encouragement in the outdoors. Lend your ear and your voice as we expand our horizons.
For Day 2 of our “You Belong Outside” series, we’re hosting a unity hike + meetup at Brumley Forest Nature Preserve! The day starts with coffee and pastries to fuel several hike opportunities. We will have a meet-n-greet with our Night 1 panelists who look forward to joining in the hike also. We’ll also have demo opportunities for packs, footwear, and an adaptive sports cycle.
2 different hiking options will be available:
Pond Walk: Join us for a family-friendly walk to our pond! Expect to walk around 2 miles at a leisurely pace with minimal elevation gain. We will visit the Brumley Nature Preserve Pond, and look for evidence of use by beavers and other critters.
Black Cohosh/Lava Loop: Join us on a 3-4 mile hike to visit some of TLC’s newest trails! We’ll follow a leisurely pace with minimal elevation gain. This option is a bit longer, but we welcome everyone!
Plus, Wes Hall from NC Adapted Sports will be on site demoing some of their bikes that create competitive and recreational sport opportunities that cultivate an inclusive and equitable community for athletes with a physical disability.
