DarrellCelebrate Juneteenth with Triangle Land Conservancy at Horton Grove Nature Preserve, a TLC property whose history is intrinsically linked to the people that shaped it. On June 18th, to celebrate the emancipation of slavery in the United States of America, we will host a campfire by the Stagville slave cabins with s’mores and historical insights into this complex period in our past. Poet, professor and historian Darrell Stover will lead an informative fireside discussion about Freedom Roads and the history of the Underground Railroad in North Carolina.  The program will immerse participants in the traditions of freedom seeking that manifested in many forms on the coast and throughout the interior of the state including on the very land we know as Horton Grove today.

Make a day of it! Spend the day in Bahama and stop by Blue Whistler Farm’s Summer Solstice celebration, then take a tour of Historic Stagville and learn how plantation people lived before the Underground Railroad and Juneteenth changed the course of history. Finish it up with us at Horton Grove with s’mores and stories of Freedom Roads!
