Come join us for one of the biggest birding events of the year at TLC’s Williamson Farm and Nature Preserve! The Great Backyard Bird Count is a citizen science project through the Cornell Lab that happens every year all over the world, and this year it is February 18th-21st! Get Wild! Get Birdy! is part our family Get Wild series so it will be aimed at introducing children to birding in general as well as participating in citizen science projects. We will take a short nature hike to see what we can find as well as learn about bird adaptations to be able to better identify them and tell them apart. TLC has a few pairs of binoculars that we can use along the way, but if you have a pair, we highly suggest you bring them to ensure you have the best chances of seeing something amazing.

After the event we will also have a self-led Story Walk™  where you and your family can walk and read Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson, a story about a girl learning all about birds in her urban neighborhood and letting her imagination take flight. Each page has a find and search element where birds are hiding in the illustrations with more information on where to find these birds in real life on the back.

This is a free event but preregistration is required. Make sure to save your spot at this link!

TLC seeks to build a supportive and safe environment in all collaborations with staff and the public. Until further notice, wearing a KN95/N95 mask will be required to attend all TLC programs. If you do not have a KN95/N95 mask, we will have some available. Please keep your mask on at all times – unless actively eating or drinking. We also encourage those eligible to be vaccinated to get their Covid-19 vaccine and booster shot. If you are experiencing any Covid-related symptoms, please stay home and attend a program another day. Our top priority is to create a safe environment for our community. Thank you for your understanding!
