Wildflowers, like all plants and animals, are inseparable from their habitats. Take a guided walk through the late-fall landscape of Triangle Land Conservancy’s Horton Grove Nature Preserve, where we’ll stroll through a restored grassland and a mixed hardwood forest with an eye toward the ecological features that influence habitat—in particular, wildflower habitats. You will see some very late-blooming wildflower and grass species, as well as seed-heads and fruit of summer-blooming species, and the diverse trees of a slope forest. Your guide will be Laura Cotterman, coauthor of Wildflowers of the Atlantic Southeast (Timber Press, 2019) and former communications manager at the North Carolina Botanical Garden.
Dress for the weather, wear good walking shoes, and bring a walking stick if you would like for going up and down moderate slopes.
