This summer, TLC brought on a communications intern, Laura Whaling, to work with us on communications, and help with the TLC blog and newsletter. Laura is a Journalism major and political science minor at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
This summer she has worked beside Communications Manager Diana Hackenburg and aided her in organizing and brainstorming for the TLC newsletter, writing articles for the Durham Herald-Sun, and writing pieces for TLC’s blog, The Dirt.
Laura has now returned to the George Washington University and, with her internship experience and lessons learned from TLC, she hopes to find a journalism internship with a news outlet or communications internship for a company in the city.
“Working for TLC this summer was a very influential and educational experience. I gained office experience and learned how to manage multiple tasks at once. I also learned the basic functions of how a nonprofit operates and enjoyed learning about the importance of land conservation. I cannot wait to return to school in the fall and use my experience from TLC for whatever comes next,” said Laura.
Thanks for all your hard work Laura! Look for an article by Laura on Green Button Farm in the fall issue of Conservation Connections, TLC’s print newsletter.
