August 24, 2012

Looking for a backyard escape this weekend?  Check out TLC’s new free i-phone app for Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve in Wake County.  TLC has just released its third trek in a series that provides “more to explore” for visitors of all ages with beautiful hi-resolution images of plants and animals, streaming video/audio, GPS mapping of destinations along the trail, and challenge questions.

Just a few minutes from downtown Raleigh and Cary, Swift Creek offers an oasis of some of the highest quality natural communities in the area.  This app explores four of the unique communities found at this site as well as some of the interesting wildlife you might encounter during your journey.  You may just be surprised at the natural communities you can discover just a few minutes from our urban areas.  TLC has also released two previous apps which explore Johnston Mill Nature Preserve in Orange County and a guide with maps and directions to all of our Nature Preserves.

So take advantage of this “cooler” summer weather and get outside.  Once you complete the app you can share your pictures and experiences with TLC via facebook or email.  The apps can be downloaded by scanning the QR code or downloading the free GPTrex app from the apple store.
