Join us to explore local protected lands and visit the Walton Farm, a recent TLC Conservation Easement!
TLC Trail Guide, Julie Hall, will lead you through Schenck Forest, a working and teaching forest for NC State University Students, to talk about its history. During this excursion, you will also hop on a short section of the City of Raleigh Greenway onto Umstead State Park. On the way back, Julie will stop for a visit at the nearby Walton Farm, the largest remaining undeveloped property between Umstead and Schenck. Farm Owner, Mary Walton, is looking forward to speaking about the conservation easement process and working with TLC on this partnership!
This will be a 5-mile hike connecting Schenck Forest to Umstead State Park. Schenck Forest serves as a working forest and outdoor laboratory for NC State students so there are no dogs allowed on this hike. There will be a portable toilet at the parking lot and a water fountain halfway through the hike. The vast majority of the trail will be wooded hiking trails, and a very small portion of paved greenway. This is a free event, but preregistration is required.
If registration is full, please fill out the waitlist form here by December 4th.
Current Mask Policy: TLC seeks to build a supportive, mask-friendly environment in all collaborations with staff and the public. Please wear a mask if you are not vaccinated, or if that makes you feel most comfortable. We will have masks available if you would like to wear one during an event. We also encourage those eligible to be vaccinated to get their Covid-19 vaccine and booster shot. If you are experiencing any Covid-related symptoms, please stay home and attend a program another day. Our top priority is to create a safe environment for our community. Thank you for your understanding.
